The Kiwanis Club of Weston proudly joined Friends of Lachat and the Hurlbutt Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization on Monday, January 19, 2026, to produce the seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Lachat Town Farm at the Juliana Lachat Preserve.
The event was a success. Kiwanians Dan Lerner, Barbara Gross, Theresa Brasco, Lance Mald, Harry Falber, and Harry Spencer helped set up and take down the great room at the Daniel E. Offutt III Education Center. Weston kids and adults successfully packed every one of the available snack bags, filling many bins, a family day of fun and service.

Faces of Freedom is a non-profit oral history and photography project founded in July 2019 by Walter Schuppe, a retired financial executive based in Avon, Connecticut. The project captures the personal stories and portraits of U.S. military veterans and Holocaust survivors to preserve their legacies and educate the public about their sacrifices.
Before launching this project, Schuppe had a 30-year career in banking and finance, most recently serving as a Senior Vice President/Managing Director at Pacific Western Bank until his retirement in early 2024. In addition to his work with Faces of Freedom, he serves as the treasurer for SEALKIDS, a charity that supports the children of U.S. Navy SEALs.

Kiwanis Supports MLK Day of Service

The Kiwanis Club of Weston proudly joined Friends of Lachat and the Hurlbutt Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization on Monday, January 19, 2026, to produce the seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Lachat Town Farm at the Juliana Lachat Preserve.
The event was a success. Kiwanians Dan Lerner, Barbara Gross, Theresa Brasco, Lance Mald, Harry Falber, and Harry Spencer helped set up and take down the great room at the Daniel E. Offutt III Education Center. Weston kids and adults successfully packed every one of the available snack bags, filling many bins, a family day of fun and service.

Before launching this project, Schuppe had a 30-year career in banking and finance, most recently serving as a Senior Vice President/Managing Director at Pacific Western Bank until his retirement in early 2024. In addition to his work with Faces of Freedom, he serves as the treasurer for SEALKIDS, a charity that supports the children of U.S. Navy SEALs.
